Fielding Callaway, MD
Orthopedic Spine Surgeon
Dr. Callaway is a board certified, fellowship trained, orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in both surgical and nonoperative management of spine conditions. He has a special interest in providing the least invasive approach to manage the patient’s condition and has special training in minimally invasive spine surgical techniques, robotic spine surgery, and motion preservation.
Dr. Callaway attended both Oconee County and Athens Academy for high school. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia. He then completed medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies. He moved to Augusta, GA for orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia. Following residency, he continued his spine surgery training as a fellow at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC.
Academically, Dr. Callaway has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific research articles and he presents his research at both local and national meetings. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), North American Spine Society (NASS), AOSpine North America, and Georgia Orthopaedic Society (GOS).
He is excited to return to his hometown of Athens, GA with his wife, Alden and three children: Beau, Lake, and Collins.
William Ashford, MD

About Dr. Ashford
William Ashford, MD, is the lead orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Arch Orthopedic & Spine in Athens and Loganville, Georgia. In his years in the field, he has applied his medical expertise and surgical experience to treat musculoskeletal injuries that hinder individuals’ active lifestyle.
Dr. Ashford earned his degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his training in orthopedic surgery with some of the most respected surgeons in the Southeast. Upon completing his residency, he pursued specialized training in sports medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, working closely with internationally renowned surgeons who specialize in knee, shoulder, and foot/ankle surgery.
He has treated elite athletes who work for the NFL and the NBA as well.
Not only does his reputation as an excellent clinician and surgeon precedes him, but his personalized and respectful approach fosters strong patient relationships, ensuring each individual feels heard, valued, and confident in his care. He opened the clinic so as to be able to connect with patients and tailor the way he treats patients and get to know them to help them decide what the best next thing for them is.

Jesse Sandlin, PA-C
Certified Physician Assistant
Jesse Sandlin, PA-C, is a certified physician assistant at Arch Orthopedic & Spine. Since joining the practice in August 2021, he has provided dedicated care to individuals with musculoskeletal issues and assisted Dr. Ashford alike.
Jesse studied sports medicine and got his BSEd in Athletic Training from the University of Georgia and his MS as a Physician Assistant from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, specializing in orthopedic medicine. He is also certified (PA-C) by the NCCPA.
Like Dr. Ashford, his approach is patient-centered and at Arch Orthopedic & Spine, he fosters positive connections with patients that lead them to making informed and accompanied decisions. He also enjoys learning continuously and growing both personally and professionally among his peers at the practice.
Ashley Best, PA-C
Physician Assistant
Ashley Best, PA-C, is a certified physician assistant at Arch Orthopedic & Spine. Since joining the practice, she has helped treat numerous conditions and injuries, adding value with every patient interaction she has.
Ashley grew up in Franklin, Tennessee, before relocating to Georgia to attend Georgia Gwinnett College, where she was part of the President’s Honor List, the Dean’s Honor List, and the Exercise Honor Society. She got her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and Exercise Science and then completed her Master’s program to become a Physician Assistant at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.
At Arch Orthopedic & Spine, Ashley connects with patients to diagnose and design personalized musculoskeletal treatment plans that suit their unique needs. To that end, she takes the time to get to know them and find the root cause of the issues, listening to their concerns, goals, and ensuring they feel supported and emboldened to make informed decisions regarding their health.
In her free time, Ashley enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and being outdoors with her two dogs.
Charli Clements - FNP-C
Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner
With over 10 years of nursing experience, board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner Charli Clements collaborates with Arch Orthopedic & Spine with her expertise in surgical nursing along with preoperative care, intro-operative care, and post operative care in multiple surgical settings. Her drive is to improve the health and wellbeing of all patients as an integral team member within an organization that provides the highest quality of care with respect, excellence, and innovation.
Charli graduated cum laude from The University of Georgia where she studied Social Work until she went to Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University (in Atlanta) where she completed her BS in Nursing and her Master’s in Nurse Partitioning. She also holds an advanced degree as a pre-operative nurse and recovery nurse in PACU with Piedmont.
Charli relishes her off-time with her family, a 13-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son. Fall weekends mean Georgia Bulldog football. Go Dawgs.
